A perfect winter walk

We all know that the perfect winter walk involves snow and luckily that is what we had! We’re rarely treated to such beauty, so when it arrives, it really is a big deal.

The weather apps (all five of them), promised me snow starting in the early hours of the morning, which is why I was up at sparrows fart o’clock to see if their estimations were true – they weren’t. However, I actually loved sitting next to the doors, in the pitch black, trying to work out if it was snowing yet and watching the sky turn from black to grey.

It turns out, I just needed to be a bit more patient, as the snow was on its way. The clouds were thick, grey and heavy, and with that came a few showers of thick rain and then the snow started to fall.

At this point, I was running in and out of the house (in my dressing gown), screeching and whooping, to which the handsome one reacted by saying, I think we need to get out there. I bombed up the stairs and threw on my clothes, grabbed my camera and off we went.

There’s truly a magic, a stillness and a peacefulness about snow falling. When I’m stood outside and the snow is falling around me, I cannot hear anything else, my only focus is watching these magical and unique snowflakes fall from the sky.

As we step out of the house and onto the path, I’m smiling in anticipation of literally putting one foot in front of another! The snow has fallen and we’re the first to put our footprints into it – yes, I know, big kid.

We walk through our little village, marvelling at how the snow makes it even more beautiful and let Bella lead the way of where she wants to go for her walk, and she picks a great route, down past the church.

We run around in the snow, we (ok, the handsome one and I), stick out our tongues to catch the flakes and before you know it, I’m unzipping my coat because I’m so warm.

We return home our faces cold and aching from smiling and laughing, stamp the snow from our boots and whilst the handsome one is drying down Bella, I go and stand in the garden and just watch, watch the beauty around me and feel a sense of peace.

That is of course, until these two turn up!

Once we’re inside there’s a roaring fire waiting for us, we make a pot of tea and sit beside the doors and watch the snow some more.

The perfect winter walk.
