Life

Hey there, July!

“The serene philosophy of the pink rose is steadying.  Its fragrant, delicate petals open fully and are ready to fall, without regret or disillusion, after only a day in the sun.  It is so every summer.  One can almost hear their pink, fragrant murmur as they settle down upon the grass: ‘Summer, summer, it will always be summer.'”

To me that poem sums up July; the garden is full of beautiful roses and with the heat the petals have been falling much faster than normal, but that blanket on the soil of lightly scented petals is absolute bliss.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here and there’s been lots of things I’ve wanted to write about, but I’ve just not had the energy. I am going to write a post about how hard it is to have those conversations around race and racism as it’s so important to keep the conversation going. However, writing my last post on racism bought up a lot of memories for me and it had more of an impact than I ever thought. In all honesty, it left me feeling exactly like, Scotty.

This great weather has made everything so gorgeous in the garden and it has been my little haven. Every morning I go out with my cup of tea and enjoy a few moments of quiet, just walking round the garden – well as quiet as it can be when you have bantam chickens squawking and going mental, so I end up doing my walk around with a chicken under my arm!

When planting and growing things in the garden, I’ve been really conscious to grow things that help the bees and butterflies, so when I’m taking my morning stroll, it makes me so happy when I see the bees and butterflies swarming all over the lavender, wallflowers, viburnum and daisies (which I grew from seed).

As lockdown eases this weekend, I’m absolutely desperate to get to the pub, The Fleece Inn in Bretforton is top of the list, but I have a feeling it’s going to be so busy that it won’t be enjoyable. I’m also quite conscious that even with the slight relaxation in social distancing rules, it may have an impact on how people behave, so with a couple of drinks inside them, I’m a bit worried they might get too close! Yes, I might be overreacting, but having those thoughts might make a trip to the pub not that much fun…

So for me, this weekend I’m going to sleep in, pop to the cheese shop, pick up some beers, read the papers, plant out my runner beans, ask my tomatoes nicely to ripen and take plenty of gorgeous pictures – doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
