Yesterday, we had to leave our immediate vicinity to take Bella to the vets and whilst it felt strange, it was like embarking on an adventure, which I have to say was quite exciting!

Until then, we’ve not been more than a few miles away from home, only to go to the butchers, greengrocer, supermarket or doctors. However we had to pop to Evesham, which is about 15 miles away as that’s where Bella’s vets is. She’s absolutely fine, but had to go in to get her glands done (any dog owner will be feeling a bit green now) and the route there is just gorgeous, so driving in the car, panoramic roof open with the sun shining in was brilliant.
Every year we go to the woods in Broadway to pick wild garlic, but we knew in the current situation it wasn’t right for us to go (it’s less than eight miles away), but we had to drive past it, so on the way back from the vets we stopped to take Bella for a walk. I know she loved it, but it was more of a treat for us!

The sun was beating down, but as soon as we pulled up next to the woods, walked through the gate, it was like being in a different climate – the air was thick and heady with the smell of garlic, it was cool, fresh and alive with the sound of trees creaking and birds singing.

We wouldn’t have visited here if we hadn’t needed to go to the vets, but this little escape made me really appreciate the simple pleasure of going for a walk somewhere a little different.
I think this lockdown is going to make me appreciate everything much more, which has surprised me. I feel like I’ve always been aware how lucky I am in my relationship, our home, where we live, nature and all the little things that go with it, but this intense situation has – apart from drinking more – it has truly make me understand what’s important.

I’m sure we’ll all come out of having learnt something and whether that’s good or bad, I reckon it’s going to be alright in the end.
