Feeling the pressure

Even writing this sentence makes me feel a bit self-involved given that in comparison to others I’m really fortunate, but if I’m feeling like this I can’t be the only person and I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to feel at this moment in time.

After watching the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson address our nation last night I felt really quite emotional. I also felt so incredibly thankful to all those people who are keeping our country going whether they’re providing food, working in a factory, fulfilling orders, stacking shelves or on the front line in our NHS. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

However, I also felt really angry and frustrated at all of those selfish people who are not taking this virus seriously and are continuing to socially interact – to those people I say, shame on you.

The fantastic organisation I work for supports farmers and growers (think of those who grow plants, fruit etc) across the country, so we are even busier than normal and my role in data and marketing has really ramped up. This is brilliant as it gives me the opportunity to really make a difference and support those in our business, but this combined with being new to the role, working remotely away from my team and the ever-lingering breaking news about Corona virus is really taking its toll and I’m most definitely feeling overwhelmed.

We (me, the handsome one, Bella and the chickens) are making a real effort to adhere to the advice on beating the Covid-19 virus and are not going out unless it is absolutely necessary. Like many people, we cannot get a slot for online groceries, so we will be going to the supermarket but only once we really need to.

I’m also trying to take a minute to step back and appreciate what’s around us. And what better to focus on than the fact that spring is upon us! Focusing on the fact that at the moment, none of my family or my friends are that unwell they have been hospitalised, being grateful that we have a garden and live rurally, so can easily distance ourselves from people and really making the most of spending time with my favourite man, our gorgeous pooch and mental chickens. I’m also incredibly grateful that we have our jobs and our government are trying to support us the best they can.

This is an unprecedented and for some, will be an incredibly lonely time, but we can come through this together as long as we listen to the advice. There is some amazing technology available so we can still see each other, such as, Houseparty (helps if you have Facebook), Skype, Zoom, FaceTime to name a few. Get your account setup, grab a glass of something and have a catch-up with the ones you love!

Keep your chin, we’re all in it together.

A xx
