New Year, New You

Abi in the Garden

What an utter load of bollocks. All of these resolutions to lose weight, dry January or to exercise more, whilst admirable, are not something that you need to wait for the new year for. It seems that these resolutions put pressure on us at an already dreary time of year, and did you know that 80% of resolutions are abandoned by mid-February?

I’ve seen so many people on Instagram asking what do their followers want to see – why though? For me, I don’t want to see perfectly curated posts that are shared because that’s what will get them the most likes. I want to see the Instagram posts that they want to share – this is the whole reason I followed that account to begin with.

Now I know know there’s been some debate around this, but in my humble opinion this is a new decade! How crazy is it that the year is 2020?!

2019 challenged me in a way that I never expected; I went through huge changes and encountered heartbreaking loss, but it was also filled with love, happiness and memories. I fell in love with photography, which my handsome one has really encouraged and supported me with, and whilst I was at it, I got to know me a lot better and started to appreciate that person looking back at me in the mirror.

Now I know January can be miserable for some, but January is my birthday (month – well you’ve got to milk it for all it’s worth, haven’t you?), so no dry January here, thank you. For me, it just so happens that a new chapter of my life starts this January, so I intend to throw my arms around it fully and embrace what’s coming my way.

I spoke to one of our neighbours in the village yesterday, who told us he had lost his sister and his nephew over the Christmas period. His sister was in her early 60s and his nephew was 31 – 31 years young and he’s no longer here. Life is short, it’s so short and you don’t know what’s round the corner, so I plan on embracing every single moment, loving as much as I can and living by the words of this great man.

Embrace who you are and remember there’s only one of you – everyone else is taken.

Happy new year!
