Visiting Whichford Pottery

People constantly ask me for ideas of what they can do in and around the Cotswolds, so I’m going to start writing about all of the wonderful places we visit, starting with Whichford Pottery.

We woke up on Sunday morning, the sun was shining, so we hopped out of bed and took Bella for walk in the woods behind our house. I don’t know how I do it, but I always manage to get covered in something, this time it was mud! I guess it could have been worse…

After we got home we were hungry, so rather than cook some brunch we thought we’d take a short drive out and go to Whichford Pottery, located in the picturesque village of Whichford, near Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire.

Now I know what you’re thinking: why would you go to a pottery shop for brunch? Well not only do they sell gorgeous pots, a shop and garden, they have a little barn called The Straw Kitchen where they serve tasty, local, free-range food – perfect place for some brunch.

The Straw Kitchen doesn’t have a traditional menu as such, they have a big blackboard, which they update with what’s currently available and believe me, it’s good. Another reason to love this place is that they care about the environment – there’s no unnecessary plastic, glass jugs of water, an eco loo – another tick in the plus box.

I plumped for a large pot of English breakfast tea, poached eggs with a couple of local, free-range sausages on the side. Because I have such great taste, the handsome one ordered exactly the same and we were not disappointed. The eggs were soft and runny, the sausages were plump, moist and tasty and the bread was lightly toasted, perfectly chewy and even though I wouldn’t have added the slightly pickled carrots and beetroot, they were actually a lovely addition.

After we finished the pot of tea, we had a walk around the gardens and visited the shop. We’re currently working on the garden and I got a lot of ideas from this lovely place.

I LOVED this pot, but it wasn’t for sale and had been commissioned for someone else. I mean look at it – it’s just perfect. They did however, have engraved pots, with quotes from Shakespeare on, which are charming.

I love St Eval candles and so does the handsome one, so we walked away with two new ones for the house and a bottle of the most incredible hot sauce! Honestly, this stuff is amazing – it’s only made down the road in Chipping Campden and it’s hot, sweet and is going to revolutionise my avocado on toast.

All in all, another lovely day with this absolute babe.

If you’re in the area, I recommend a visit.
