I have to say, I’m hugely enjoying bank holiday season! No alarms, (mostly) sunny weather, adventures, the luxury of having endless pots of tea, reading the paper from cover to cover and having that extra glass of wine on a Sunday – just perfect.

This weekend it’s my Mum’s birthday and I’m having Friday off to celebrate with her, and make the most of the weekend, as my parents are staying with us. Mum’s birthday is on the Friday, so I’m thinking of putting on a champagne lunch and then taking her and my Dad to a few of my favourite haunts nearby.
Yes, you’ve guessed it – The Wild Rabbit in Kingham is one of them, especially when it’s covered in wisteria and then we’ll head to The Fox at Oddington, where the bloody Mary mix is absolutely spot-on!
The Handsome One informed me that he’s ordered the skip to arrive on Friday, so project renovate-the-garden will be well underway come the weekend. Whilst the view over the fields is gorgeous, the view from the bifolds into the garden leaves a little to be desired…

I get the feeling that if Mum and Dad stay the whole weekend, they’re going to be roped into filling the skip and helping me in the garden!
I’ve got my fingers crossed that the weather is going to be sunny because I need to tackle the front garden, which resembles a jungle. The weeds can only grow because there’s space for them to do so, but I’d like to plant some gorgeous, English lavender as I know the bees love it almost as much as I do.
I’m also in the early stages of renovating the chairs in the kitchen. I bought four of them from eBay for less than £20 a couple of years ago. I had to remove the grotty seat pads using the staple remover (as well as a load of skin from my fingers when I slipped – yes, it hurt) and I actually really liked the chairs as they are, but I feel like the kitchen has a bit too much brown in it.

I’m going to paint the chairs in the same colour as the legs of the oak table, which I upcycled last year in Farrow & Ball, Cornforth White. I really think the lighter chairs will brighten up the kitchen and even though the Handsome One is a bit reluctant, I’m sure they’ll look great!

All I plan on doing is wire-brushing the chairs, priming them and painting them. If the grey/white colour looks a bit stark, then I’ll make them look a bit more ‘rustic’ using a wire sponge.
Here’s to a great bank holiday weekend!
A x
