August Bank Holiday & Seafood

And just like that, it’s almost autumn…

That’s always the way I feel after August Bank Holiday weekend; like autumn is just around the corner.

We had a great weekend – we went up to Shropshire to spend time with my parents and help them prepare for their wedding which is happening in less than a month’s time! Even after spending 34 years together, they still want to get married; it doesn’t get more romantic than that.

After a sausage sandwich on Saturday morning, we loaded the car up and headed to Shropshire. Before we were even 30 minutes into our journey the route changed from amber to red as there was an accident on the M6, so we had to take a detour and avoid the motorway all the way home. I was worried about timings as I had my Mum booked in for a make-up trial for the wedding, followed by a surprise lunch with me and my brother’s girlfriend. Needless to say, we were a bit late but everything worked out in the end!

After a great makeover by Jess on the Dior counter in Shrewsbury, I hurried my Mum down the road as I’d seen this ‘great shop that you’ll absolutely love’, only to shove her through the doors of a lovely fish restaurant called Loche Fyne Seafood & Grill Restaurant.

You may have hear of the chain as there are 27 restaurants around the country. What I like about Loch Fyne is that it was founded by two oyster enthusiasts, who started selling their oysters from a small shack on the west coast of Scotland. Not only is their seafood sustainable, but most of the fish is delivered from the loch itself; so where better to introduce my Mum to oysters?

My brother’s girlfriend, Shadae doesn’t actually like fish, but I had taken a look at the menu and they had a burger and steak, which she was more than happy with. We decided that we didn’t want mains, but to try a few dishes as everything looked so scrummy, so we went to town on the starters and sides.

Smoked anchovies, calamari, scallops, halloumi fries and of course, oysters. Now even though my Mum loves fish, I thought it might be best for her to try grilled oysters first. Then our lovely host suggested that we tried the ‘Natural’ oysters, so how could we possibly say no?

Elegant as ever, whereas my Mum is a total pro!

They were without a doubt, the best oysters I’ve ever had. I’ve tried oysters in the past but I’ve never really enjoyed them that much and would never order them, but Loch Fyne has me converted.

After stuffing ourselves full of seafood and wine, we headed home to see the boys who had been for their suit fitting to talk make-up, outfits, wedding plans and playlists.

What a brilliant weekend.

A x
