Our brilliant trip to London – Part One

I had every intention of doing one post, but there is so much to get through I’m going to do two!

London was amazing, but it broke me. I chanced missing our train so I could run into MacDonalds and get some chips. Yes, I’m that person.

We arrived early Saturday afternoon and got the tube to Kensington and strolled to Hotel Indigo, where we were spending the next couple of nights.

As our room wasn’t ready we sat at the bar and had a beer, as it was so hot on the tube and I needed further refreshments – the mini bottle of prosecco that was consumed on the train didn’t quite fill the spot.

We had a reservation at Harry’s Dolce Vita at 2.30pm – which wasn’t far from where we were staying (Knightsbridge) and I stumbled across this venue when I took the wrong route to our office (idiot) a few weeks ago. So we made our there with empty tummies ready to sample the menu, and believe me when I say, it didn’t let us down.

As it was such a lovely sunny day, we started off with a couple of Italian G&T’s and tried to make a decision on what we wanted. We couldn’t decide so we got a selection of food, including smoked burrata (that they bring out with a glass jar over the top of it, trés cool), truffle arancini balls, tuna pizzetta and a side of the best fries, ever.

Satisfied and eager to enjoy the sun, we spent the next few hours, hand in hand, walking around Hyde Park, laughing, being tourists and marveling at what a perfect day it was.

After all of that walking in the heat we thought we deserved a drink, so headed back to the hotel, but en-route decided to have a pit-stop at the K Bar, located in the Kensington Hotel. Whilst it was quiet, it was perfect for us to lounge at the bar and deliberate what we wanted to drink, in this gorgeous, cosy and elegant bar.

Provencé rose for me and a cocktail for the handsome one (HO), which was created by the bartender and tasted so good that he had another!

After this, we did actually go back to our hotel and I really took note of what a lovely room it was – big windows, spacious bathroom, cosy dressing gowns (mandatory when you’re getting ready) and enough room to feel relaxed.

Before heading out to explore Kensington, we sat at the bar of Theo’s Simple Italian, (located in Hotel Indigo), and sampled one of their cocktails. An old fashioned for me, and an espresso martini for the HO.

Suitably lubricated we headed out to explore our surrounding area – the first couple of places we went to were fine, but then we found a BRILLIANT bar, which made me as excitable as a child on Christmas morning, but more of that in the next post!
