Spring, where did you go?

Cotswolds view

As I sit here with laryngitis, feeling rather sorry for myself, rain pouring down, I’m wishing for sunny spring to reappear to make me feel better. And not only that, the sun will give everything in the greenhouse a boost!

It was only a couple of weeks ago that I was sat outside, exposing my funny-looking knees to the sun, whilst my crazy little chicken, Betty was scratching my paper and trying to get my attention.

Talking of my crazy girls, they’ve FINALLY started laying eggs! At 23 weeks I was starting to worry; these girls have a good life, roaming the garden and chasing out intruders (finches, jackdaws, squirrels and occasionally me), but they were not laying any eggs. I won’t lie, I was concerned we’d bought three cockerels but then the day finally arrived when they had a present in the nesting box for me. Edna, Betty and Matilda are all bantams but this is the size difference in eggs.

Bantam eggs

I’m unsure how I’m even going to crack it, it’s that small but I am not complaining – is still love them just as much even if they didn’t lay.

So spring, please make your way back to us so I can feel better, get out in the garden and cuddle my chickens. We’re ready for you!
