Meningitis Now Christmas Concert at Gloucester Cathedral

Did you know that Gloucester Cathedral is over 1,000 years old? It’s the most stunning venue and it’s of no surprise that they filmed some of Harry Potter here.

I’ve been so looking forward to Christmas but it seems to have all of a sudden crept up on us and I am not prepared! With not having a Christmas tree and work being so crazy I wasn’t feeling very festive until I attended the Meningitis Now Christmas concert.

I’ve been going to these concerts for at least seven or eight years and they are the most magical, festive event. The setting could not be anymore grand or impressive, the atmosphere is second to none and it gives you an opportunity to indulge in the Christmas festivities but to also help an extremely worthy charity.

Christmas can be a very poignant time where you think about those who can’t be there and whilst this concert is very much about celebration and singing the beautiful traditional Christmas carols in a breathtaking surrounding, you also take time to reflect on those who lost their struggle with meningitis and the devastating events that follow.

My favourite act of the night was the Band of the Gloucestershire Constabulary and they were absolutely phenomenal. I adore live music but the sound of the band goes to a whole new level in the cathedral. We sang Silent Night, Once in Royal David’s City and many more carols along with the band and it was truly magnificent. We also heard from the Cleeve Primary Academy and flautist, Clemency Rubinstein.

I’m now well and truly feeling festive, especially as when we got back from the concert on Thursday night there was a big, beautiful Christmas tree waiting the greet me!

Christmas invokes all types of emotions so take the time to think about those who can’t be with us, allow yourself to be sad or upset, then brush those tears away, raise a glass and enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.
