Garden

Gardening advice wanted!

It’s rather grey today isn’t it? I do hope we have a good pour down of rain, as I didn’t water my vegetables properly last night. I know, tut tut.

As much as I love my job (especially as I have swifts constantly screeching past my window and buzzards circling), I would much rather be at our new house trying to work out how the garden, bathroom and kitchen will look. Small task, hey?

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see I posted a picture of the garden, but here are a few more pictures of the overgrown jungle.

What I’ve not got a picture of is where you walk through the back gate there is a big open space that will most likely house the oil tank, wood store and hopefully a green house.

As you walk in through the back gate, this picture below is the left hand side of the garden. In the corner, I’m envisaging chickens and a compost heap. Even though we will only have three chickens, the area will be quite big so that we can rotate them round so they constantly have access to grass.

This picture below is the main centre of the garden – I’m not too bothered about having grass; I just don’t think we will make much use of it and I would rather have paths around flower beds buzzing with bees and a vegetable patch in the centre that runs up to the fence.

This is the right hand side of the garden – now this area is outside the house, so I think paving with squares of soil dotted around so that we can grow flowers within the paving, but nothing too high as we don’t want to spoil the view. We will be having bifolds in the kitchen to make the most of this beautiful scenery.

Now, this is where I need your help! This is obviously a massive task and it might be clear from the pictures but the garden slopes down from the right. This is not necessarily a massive problem as we could incorporate steps and have different levels of the garden, but where we have the patio / slabs / paving this would obviously need to be leveled off with aggregate or something similar.

What I need to know is, where do I start?? We have started strimming the grass and we were talking about creating a temporary vegetable patch which I can tend to whilst all of the building work is going on, but I’m just a bit overwhelmed.

Any advice, tips or hugs would be hugely appreciated! The garden is going to take a while and a fair bit of money to create, but in the meantime what can I do to get started?

Thank you!

A xx
